Fiscal Governance 60-Second Video Script
If I could recommend one fiscal policy reform for Nigeria over the next five years, it would be
expanding the tax base through digital tax administration instead of increasing tax rates.
Nigeria cannot achieve sustainable development if government revenue depends heavily on oil and
borrowing. By integrating tax systems with the National Identification Number, Bank Verification
Number, and business registration databases, we can reduce tax evasion, improve voluntary
compliance, and bring more businesses into the formal economy. This would generate more
revenue to invest in quality education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social protection without
placing additional burdens on honest taxpayers.
As an Economics graduate, my research focused on taxation as a fiscal policy tool to address
inflation. That experience strengthened my understanding of how sound fiscal policies promote
economic stability and inclusive growth. I believe better fiscal governance starts with transparency,
accountability, and public trust. I am passionate about educating citizens, especially in rural
communities, on the importance of taxation and advocating for policies that ensure tax revenues
are used efficiently to improve the lives of all Nigerians.
