1. Introduction
On 13
th
February, 2026, I had the opportunity to visit the PSP Precast Yard located
near Mankol village on Sanand-Nalsarovar Road, Sanand, Gujarat. The purpose
of this visit was to observe the precast concrete manufacturing processes,
understand the functions of different sections, identify site challenges, and
evaluate safety practices on site. During the visit, I interacted with staff, observed
operations first-hand, and made detailed notes to prepare this report.
PSP Precast is part of PSP Projects Ltd, a well-known construction company
based in Gujarat. The precast yard produces a range of precast building elements
for industrial, residential, and institutional structures. PSP Precast aims to provide
turnkey solutions from design to assembly by combining advanced engineering
and manufacturing systems.
As part of the site visit, I also observed the Ninety” building project being
executed by PSP Projects Ltd in Ahmedabad. Unlike the precast manufacturing
facility, this site provided exposure to the actual implementation and assembly of
precast structural components in a real construction environment.
The project consisted of two high-rise buildings, one rising to approximately
G+18 floors and the other to around G+9 floors. This site allowed me to
understand how precast elements manufactured at the Sanand facility are
transported, handled, and integrated into a multi-storey building structure.
One particularly interesting system observed on site was the logistics and material
management strategy. Precast components arriving from the yard were managed
using a predefined identification and routing mechanism. Each element was
tagged for traceability, while delivery vehicles followed a controlled entry
sequence to minimize congestion and delays during unloading operations. This
systematic handling greatly reduced confusion typically seen on conventional
construction sites.

2. Site Location and details: PSP Precast Yard
Project Name: PSP Precast Yard
Location: Mankol village, Sanand-Nalsarovar Road, Sanand-382220,
Gujarat, India
Owner / Operator: PSP Projects Ltd – Precast Division
Site Area: The precast manufacturing unit spreads over an industrial
area of approximately 35 acres, with a production facility of around
18,000 sq. meters.
During the visit, the yard appeared well organized with dedicated zones for
reinforcement, casting, curing, quality checks, and storage. Clear signage
helped navigate the large facility.
3. Technical details of each section
3.1 Raw Material Storage
This area stores cement, aggregates, admixtures, and reinforcement bars.
I observed that materials were stacked neatly, with labels and separation
to avoid contamination. Storage followed systematic stock rotation to
reduce waste.
Functions:
Keeps raw materials secured and sorted
Ensures quality of concrete mix components
Prevents wastage
3.2 Reinforcement Fabrication Zone
Here, steel bars were being cut, bent, and fabricated into reinforcement
cages using bar-bending machines and welding tables. Workers followed
the prepared bar-bending schedules from the design drawings.

FAQs

What is the purpose of the PSP Precast Yard site visit?
The purpose of the site visit to the PSP Precast Yard was to observe the precast concrete manufacturing processes, understand the functions of different sections, identify site challenges, and evaluate safety practices on site. The visit allowed for direct interaction with staff and firsthand observation of operations, which was essential for preparing the report.
What are the main products manufactured at the PSP Precast Yard?
The PSP Precast Yard produces a range of precast building elements, including prestressed hollow core slabs, beams, columns, walls, and staircases. These elements are designed for industrial, residential, and institutional structures, showcasing the facility's capability to provide turnkey solutions from design to assembly.
What challenges were observed during the site visit?
Several challenges were noted during the site visit, including space and logistics issues related to the movement of large precast elements, maintaining dimensional accuracy for prestressed components, and the reliance on skilled labor for reinforcement and quality checks. Additionally, fluctuations in the temporary workforce could impact planning and operations.
What safety practices were observed at the PSP Precast Yard?
Safety practices at the PSP Precast Yard included mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) for all workers, such as helmets, gloves, and safety vests. Equipment safety measures were in place, including the use of warning sirens on gantry cranes and barricades around casting areas to prevent unauthorized access. Overall, safety protocols were emphasized due to the heavy lifting and machinery involved.
How does the Ninety project utilize precast construction?
The Ninety project primarily relies on precast load-bearing and framing elements, such as precast wall panels, column segments, and floor slabs. This approach allows for rapid installation and structural continuity, demonstrating the advantages of precast construction in terms of speed and accuracy. Connection provisions in each precast unit ensure proper alignment and load transfer.
What is the significance of logistics and material management at the site?
The logistics and material management strategy observed at the PSP Precast Yard was significant for minimizing congestion and delays during unloading operations. Each precast component was tagged for traceability, and delivery vehicles followed a controlled entry sequence, which greatly reduced confusion typically seen on conventional construction sites.
What were the findings regarding quality control at the PSP Precast Yard?
Quality control at the PSP Precast Yard involved several checks, including dimensional inspections of precast elements and sampling cubes for compressive strength. The quality control measures ensured that concrete elements gained strength and durability while avoiding defects before dispatch, which is crucial for maintaining high manufacturing standards.
