Cognitive distortions are irrational, exaggerated thought patterns that fuel anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Common distortions include all-or-nothing thinking, overgeneralization, mental filtering, jumping to conclusions, emotional reasoning, and labeling. Recognizing these patterns is key to challenging them, often done through CBT.
